Our Ukrainian community was honored to welcome our state leaders Senator Amy Klobuchar. Lt. Governor Peggy Flanagan, State Senator Kari Dziedzic, State Representative Sydney Jordan, and city leaders Mayor Jacob Frey and Michael Rainville – Minneapolis City Council Ward 3 at the 21st Ukrainian Heritage Festival! Thank you very much for your support! Minnesota Ukrainians appreciate and value it very much! Slava Ukraini!
One of the festival guests said, “…Sen. Amy Klobuchar enthusiastically gave her support to Ukraine in its struggle for freedom. There was a standing ovation when she said: “The war in Ukraine is not only a crisis for Ukraine, it is a crisis for democracy. That is why America stands with Ukraine.” True emotion could be readily heard in Senator Klobuchar’s voice as she spoke of her recent visit to Bucha in Ukraine. Bucha was the first city where Russia’s inhumane atrocities of civilians was discovered. Unfortunately, with the recent liberation of the Kharkiv region, more such mass graves of tortured innocents are being uncovered.
Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan. She spoke of Gov. Tim Walz, who with the unanimous approval of the state Legislature, passed a bill to divest Minnesota from any business dealings with Russia and Belarus. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey spoke about his grandparents who were Ukrainian…” https://tinyurl.com/3nrrvyan
Representative Jordan spoke the unanimous support the divestment bill received when the House voted on it, and Senator Dziedzic, who is of Polish descent, spoke about her trip to Poland and the work she was doing there to support Ukrainian refugees. Councilman shared his memories of growing up in the Ukrainian neighborhood in North East Minneapolis and his close ties to the Ukrainian community. The audience was moved and uplifted by all the addresses. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
