Ukrainian Pysanky Workshop

March 16, 2019 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

$30.00

For centuries, Ukrainians have created pysanky using just a few simple tools. A pysanka (Ukrainian: писанка, plural: pysanky) is a Ukrainian Easter egg, decorated with traditional Ukrainian folk designs using a wax-resist method. The word pysanka comes from the verb pysaty, “to write”, as the designs are not painted on, but written with beeswax.

This March, Ukrainian American Community Center offers fun, small hands on classes of Ukrainian pysanka making. Workshop fee includes a 2 hour session and all of the supplies from the Ukrainian Gift Shop.

No prior pysanky making experience is required. Dyes, beeswax and a stylus are used to decorate the eggs with traditional Ukrainian designs. Pysanky can be enjoyed all year round and make a wonderful gift for you or your loved ones. Learn about the history and symbolism of this expressive art form and fill your Easter basket with beautiful pysanky!

There is a cap of 10 students for this workshop, so sign up today! Because we need to order the pysanky making kits ahead of time, all seats must be pre-registered and paid for by March 7th, no refunds will be issued after March 2nd.
